Material guidelines

Here you will find the material requirements for Mediatomaatti’s most common advertising and content solutions. For every campaign, you will receive a material list specific to the selected implementation.

DISPLAY ADVERTISING

Ready-made image assets with clear dimensions.

Display ads are delivered as ready-made static image assets. Panorama and Leaderboard formats require separate desktop and mobile versions.

Ad format Desktop Mobile Files

01

File

  • JPG, PNG or WebP
  • RGB colour space
  • Maximum 300 kB / file
02

Destination URL

  • Working HTTPS address
  • UTM parameters are allowed
  • Provide a URL, not an HTML link
03

Responsiveness

  • The desktop image is not cropped into the mobile version
  • Panorama and Leaderboard require separate versions
  • Images are not normally upscaled

DESIGN TIP

Give important elements enough breathing room.

Keep logos, the main message and other essential elements far enough from the edges. In particular, treat the 980 × 400 px and 320 × 320 px Panorama versions as separate layouts.

NATIVE ADVERTISING

Provide the content. The media handles the layout.

With native advertising, you do not supply a finished banner. Mediatomaatti builds a commercial placement from the material to fit the selected media property’s visual style.

PRODUCT OR SERVICE PLACEMENT

When the destination is a clear commercial offering

Suitable, for example, for a service, product, app, online service, event, booking flow or downloadable guide.

  • Advertiser name, headline and description
  • Main image, recommendation 1200 × 628 px
  • HTTPS destination URL and CTA
  • Optional logo and classification, such as Service or Event

If a placement includes a price, offer or other changing information, the advertiser is responsible for its accuracy and currency.

The advertising label is added by the Mediatomaatti system.

The advertiser does not need to include the “Ad” label in the image material for a native ad.

SPONSORSHIP

Section, theme and media sponsorships are designed case by case.

A sponsorship package can combine sponsor labels, logos, display advertising, native placements and sponsored content.

Sponsorship does not automatically give the advertiser control over the media’s editorial content. The commercial relationship is made clear to the user.

IDENTIFIABILITY

Advertising should look like advertising.

Mediatomaatti is responsible for the technical recognisability of advertising in its own publishing systems.

Display and native advertising are labelled as advertising. Sponsored content and sponsorship solutions are labelled in a way appropriate to the implementation, for example with a Ad– or Commercial collaboration label and the advertiser name.

The advertiser does not need to build Mediatomaatti commercial labels into finished image assets unless separately agreed.

RESTRICTIONS

What we do not accept in standard advertising solutions.

We intentionally keep advertising technology controlled. An ad does not need unrestricted access to the user’s browser in order to work.

Unrestricted JavaScript code
Iframe ads
Third-party ad tags
Flash or other executable code
Ads that automatically play sound
Forced redirects
Pop-ups and overlays that prevent use
Interstitials without a close option
Ads that imitate system messages
Fingerprinting and cross-site tracking in advertising material

HTML5, video and other special implementations are currently outside the standard material requirements. Any special implementation is agreed separately.

MATERIAL DELIVERY

You receive a campaign-specific material request.

The delivery date is agreed as part of the campaign. Submit material early enough for review and any necessary revision round.

The technical and content basics.

  • Image dimensions
  • The destination URL
  • Desktop and mobile versions
  • Native text lengths
  • The recognisability of commercial content
  • The suitability of the material for the selected media property

ASK RATHER THAN GUESS

You do not need to know the technical vocabulary of ad formats.

Tell us what you are doing and we will help choose the right implementation and specify exactly which materials are needed.
